Who We Are
Founder, Analyst & Portfolio Manager
Gregg S. Fisher, CFA®, CFP® is a leading investor and analyst, an experienced portfolio manager, and a recognized pioneer in systematic and factor investing.
He is the Founder, Analyst & Portfolio Manager of Quent Capital, which has approximately $3 billion in assets under management and advisement. He has been responsible for managing the investments of his firm since 1992.
For over three decades, Gregg’s approach has been grounded in the disciplined application of science and data, enriched by an entrepreneurial lens, and amplified by a radical curiosity that fuels continuous learning. He’s drawn to big frontiers—genomics, space, robotics, aging research, AI—and brings that same appetite for discovery to evaluating businesses and the forces shaping industries. Together, they help him identify the intangible drivers of long-term value.
An early adopter of factor-based investing, Gregg was among the first to embed sophisticated factor strategies in asset-management vehicles, trademarking the term Multi-Factor® before it became mainstream. This pioneer mindset, driven by his intellectual reach across both quantitative and qualitative aspects of finance, has been core to his performance across a 33-year career spanning six bear markets.
Gregg’s story in finance began in his family’s accounting practice, which was founded in 1978 and still operates today. As a teenager sorting transaction data by hand, he became fascinated by the patterns he was seeing in the data—an early spark that led to founding of his investment firm in 1992 at the dawn of the quantitative revolution. Over the decades that followed, his work grew to encompass the management of more than $10 billion in assets. In 2016, he shifted into a period of focused research, exploring new frontiers in global small-cap strategies. In 2020, he launched a small-cap strategy, marking the next phase of a 48-year story that continues today as Quent Capital.
At the core of his work as an analyst and portfolio manager is a commitment to collaborative discovery, with research that extends beyond the traditional boundaries of finance.
Gregg has cultivated an exceptional ecosystem of academic and business leaders that fuels his work. He collaborates with leading scholars and industry experts to advance investment science, while staying in active dialogue with founders and CEOs across the global economy. These relationships generate research ideas, bring new perspectives to his investment process, sharpen his strategies, and create advantages for his investors.
He advances this work through the Quent Research Collaborative, engaging with leading minds from institutions including Harvard, the University at Buffalo, the University of Texas and others to publish new research. That commitment is further anchored by the Quent Research Collaborative at the University at Buffalo, a physical hub where faculty and students in finance, data science, and engineering come together to explore new frontiers in investment science.
Gregg has authored dozens of peer-reviewed articles in leading financial journals as well as media outlets and serves on the program committee for The Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance (The Q Group). He chairs the investment committee for the nearly $2 billion endowment at his alma mater, the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, and serves on advisory councils for Columbia University and the University of Texas.
He shares that same intellectual range on his award-winning podcast, The Q Factor, through in-depth conversations with pioneers and leaders advancing science, technology, business, and the future of the global economy.
Through the Fisher Family Fellowship, he expands access to mentorship for high-potential students, fostering curiosity, evidence-based inquiry, and scientific discovery in future leaders. Gregg also has served on the board of the LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. A drummer since age seven, he sees a direct relationship between math, music, and innovation.
A believer in the growth mindset, Gregg is always learning—most recently, stepping onto a surfboard for the first time at 48.
Gregg earned a BA in Finance from the University at Buffalo and is a graduate of the YPO Presidents’ Program at Harvard Business School. He is a CFA® charterholder and a CFP® professional.
